"One for One"

One for One

I had been told about Tom's Shoes, but had never really looked into it. WOW! I have officially ordered my first pair of Tom's shoes, but even more importantly I just ordered a pair of shoes for someone who doesn't even have any.

TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: For every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about.

Tom's Story

In 2006 an American traveler, Blake Mycoskie, befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created a company that would match every pair of shoes sold with a pair given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by caring TOMS customers.

Since our beginning, TOMS has given over 140,000* pairs of shoes to children in need through the One for One model. Because of your support, TOMS plans to give over 300,000 pairs of shoes to children in need around the world in 2009.

Our ongoing community events and Shoe Drop Tours allow TOMS supporters and enthusiasts to be part of our One for One movement. Join us.
Why shoes?

Most children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or just getting around, these children are at risk.

Walking is often the primary mode of transportation in developing countries. Children can walk for miles to get food, water, shelter and medical help. Wearing shoes literally enables them to walk distances that aren't possible barefoot.

Wearing shoes prevents feet from getting cuts and sores on unsafe roads and from contaminated soil. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected. The leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted parasites which penetrate the skin through open sores. Wearing shoes can prevent this and the risk of amputation.

Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.

There is one simple solution...SHOES.

Of the planet's six billion people, four billion live in conditions inconceivable to many. Lets take a step towards a better tomorrow.

Changing Africa from the IN>side out<

Hey Friends,

I have put together a letter outlining a little about the trip to Africa that i am taking, and kind of what i have been up to lately. For those of you who have been apart of my "life share" mailing list before, this letter is much like that. I have had a couple of people ask me if i was going to be mailing one out this year, so I've put one together. Many people would refer to this as a support letter, which is a part of it, but i value sharing life and what God is doing, and if you want to choose to be apart of that through prayer and giving I pray Gods blessings on you. There will be an address that you can send any contributions that you would like to make, which will be much appreciated. I know that me going on this trip is pretty much impossible if it was not for the love, prayer, and financial support of all of you.

It is incredible how God moves on peoples hearts to give and support what He is doing, and just a few weeks ago i was reminded of that. I received a call at work from a gentleman that makes all of our shirts for our events, and he preceded to ask: "so where do I send the check?". and i replied: " What Check, normally we pay you". and he said: " I heard that you were going to be going to Africa, and I want to support you going on your trip".... WOW, I was blown away... and just a few days latter i received a check from him for $320 to help me go on my trip. PRAISE GOD!!! Only $2,600 more dollars to go, and i have no doubt in my mind that God is going to provide every penny.

It is my prayer that if God is impressing on your heart to give, that you would be obedient to that; not so that my trip can be payed for, maybe he has laid someone else on your heart to give to, Give it in obedience. I would rather have you give to someone that God has impressed on your heart to give to and you just pray for me, than for you to give out of disobedience.

If you would like me to mail you a letter, please shoot me a facebook message with an address in which you would like me to mail it. or if you would rather receive it via email, we can do that as well. just let me know what email address you would like me to mail it to.
